UCC and EUW both beat UPSA and UMaT respectively in their opening games yesterday and subsequently, bookmakers have tipped the two sides to be the hot favorites to go home with the giant trophy and indeed, the game really was an interesting and exciting one.
The university of Cape Coast made their intentions very clear in the early stages of the game with some quick passing game and eventually got the opener on the 11th minute through Emmanuel Laweh aka Milito to unsettle the big men from UEW.
EUW accepted the challenge and resorted to some wonderful counter attacking football but were unable to break the watertight defence of UCC.
The goalkeeper for UCC, Frank Aheto sustained a serious head injury when he collided with the lead attacker of EUW around the 40th minute of the game and was quickly rushed to the hospital with an ambulance for medical treatment.
Yahuza Rufus came in to replaced him and he equally lived up to the expectations with some great saves to the amazement of the home fans. The referee brought the first half to an end .
The second half got underway with UCC dictating the pace of the game once again just as they did in the first half and almost got the second goal but Emmanuel Laweh, the goal scorer wasted that glorious opportunity.
UEW quickly put their acts together once again and started pilling the pressure on the men from UCC but were unable to pull even due to the resolute defending from the men in red and white. In fact, the men in blue and white from EUW lifted their game and created a lot of goal scoring chances but they wasted all to the disappointment of their home fans.
Kingsford Otoo of UCC was sent off in the 76th minute for a second bookable offence to the advantage of the home side but they failed to make it count after taking total control of the game.
The men from UCC gave a good account of themselves after weathering the storms as they came under so much pressure and they indeed proved to the host and soccer loving fans why they are the defending champions. The referee brought proceedings to an end after 3 minutes of time added on to the disappointments of the host fans and to the joy of the players and fans of UCC.
