FREELY RECEIVED, FREELY GIVE

Matthew 10:8, “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.”
The entire world evolves around giving and for that matter, giving is one the basic elements that sustains the society and the world at large.
The question is, WHAT IS GIVING?

kola-nut-829934_1280 Giving from the Greek translationis didomi pronounced as did-o-mee which means to grant, give to ones asking, let have, supply, and furnish necessary things, to commit to someone or to sacrifice.

Giving is not about letting away a material possession. Giving is not only about the money, clothes or the food stuffs we give to people. In Acts 3:4-5, Peter and John gave out Jesus Christ and the lame man walked.

John 10:11 also says,” I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. (KJV).

Giving goes beyond all these things, beyond the physical. To give is to sacrifice.

Why did Jesus Christ make the statement “FREELY YE HAVE RECEIVED FREELY GIVE”? After our Lord Jesus Christ has given the twelve disciples power over unclean spirits, to cast then out and heal all manner of sicknesses, Jesus Christ saw it as a need to bring to the knowledge that they received the power they had freely and hence they must also give it out freely because the human nature will always boast when something is received.1 Corinthians 4:7 says, “For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boost as though you did not?

Beloved do you cherish giving? Do you recognize giving as important? I would like to share with you three of the essence or the importance of giving.

Giving gives back to you.
Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (NIV)

Giving brings our faith alive.
James 2:15-17 “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” (NIV)

Giving is a privilege.
Proverbs 3:9-10 Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. (NIV).
How lovely is it to give to you fellow brother or sister, what a privilege is it to also give to God who owns the entire universe and all that is within, what a blessing is it to bless others through giving that you may be blessed by God.

If God through love gave His son Jesus Christ to be crucified for our sins, if Jesus Christ gave out His name, power and the Holy Spirit
If the widow gave Elijah a cake and her dough never got finished until there was food, if the little boy gave out his lunch and 5,000 men were fed with 12 baskets remaining, if Dorcas gave out clothes and support to people and came back to life after she died, I strongly believe that our generation can give out our talents, treasures (material possessions) as well as time to our brothers and sisters and God. We can give what we have received

God is looking up to you and I to give to make the world a loving one. Always remember that if you fail to give you only keep what you have. God bless you.
Amen.
