Robert Lewandowski struck twice while Serge Gnabry, James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich also scored in a comprehensive win against Wolfsburg.
Lewandowski’s brace on the day made him become the most prolific non German goal scorer in the Bundesliga. He beat Claudio Pizzaro to that record.
Bayern’s win ensures that they have moved to the top of the Bundesliga table with goal difference despite Borrussia Dortmund winning against struggling Stuttgart 3-1 at home.
“I’m very happy with the game, I really liked the way it was and never got in trouble,” Kovac said after Bayern’s 12th win in 13 Bundesliga games.
Bayern Munich and Liverpool will face each other in the champions league round of sixteen to determine who progresses to the next stage.
The first leg ended 0-0 at Anfield. The two teams could break the deadlock after 90 minutes of action. There is a lot to play for at the Alianz Arena on Wednesday evening.
Liverpool on the other hand defeated Burnley at home in the English premier league to keep the pressure on Manchester City.
