The road to the Wonder Metropolitano Stadium for the UEFA Champions League is still on as the remaining 8 teams battle it out for the semi-finals with only one Spanish team left to compete in the race.
The quest for continental glory is heating up as the Champions League moves into the quarter final phase.
Heavyweights such as Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City are the strong favourites to get their hands on the ultimate trophy in June but they have at least two more hurdles to clear first.
Premier League trio Liverpool , Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs will all feel they have a decent chance of progressing wile AJAX and PORTO look like dark horses with Barcelona determined to get their 6th glory in European Football.
Ghanabliss.com sports desk have compiled some facts we need to know at the participating teams in the quarter finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPURS VS MANCHESTER CITY
Man City have won 11 of their last 16 matches against Spurs(D1,L4) with all those meetings coming in the Premier League and they have won the last three games in a row.
Man City have lost all four of their European matches against English Opponents, losing both legs of the 1970-71 Cup Winner’s Cup semi-final against Chelsea and both legs of last season’s Champions League quarter-finals to Liverpool.
Spurs haven’t faced an English team in a European Competition since April 1973 when they faced and where eliminated by Liverpool in the 1972-73 UEFA CUP SEMI-FINALS.
LIVERPOOL VS FC PORTO
FC Porto were eliminated by Liverpool in the Champions League last season at the last 16 stage , losing 5-0 on aggregate though the second leg at Anfield did end goalless.
Liverpool have progressed from four of their last quarter-final appearances in the Champions League between 2004/05 and 2017-18, only in 2008/09 did they fall out after a 5-7 aggregate defeat to Chelsea.
AJAX VS JUVENTUS
Ajax and Juventus will be facing for the ninth time in European Cup/Champions League and for the first time since November 2004.The Dutch side have not beaten the Italians in the competition since winning the 1973 European Cup final in Belgrade( 1-0).
Juventus are unbeaten in each of their last nine European matches against Ajax ( W5,D4) including a draw in the 1996 champions league final before going on to lift the trophy to a penalty shoutout victory.
Ajax will host Juventus in a champions league encounter for the first time since November 2004 in the group stages falling to a 0-1 defeat thanks to Pavel Nedved strike for the OLD LADIES.
MANCHESTER UNITED VS BARCELONA.
Barcelona have never won a game against Manchester United at the OLD TRAFFORD.
Man United have lost two champions league trophies to Barcelona in their previous two games in 2009 and 2011 with Lionel Messi scoring on both occasions.
Manchester United will be chasing their 4th champions League trophy while Barcelona will be in for their 6th title.
